Go! Game! Music! (GGM):
At what age did you become interested in music?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
When I was 9 age old, I shoplifted a tape of Tchaikovsky for the first time. I wanted to obtain it by all means necessary for me.

GGM:
What was the first song you composed and who were some of your early influences?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I was crazy about Heavy Metal Music at one's teens me. And I can find a lot of crazy songs to a lot of tapes at that time.

GGM:
How did you get involved with the game music business?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I had been working as a Synthesizer Programmer in the music industry since 20 years old. I met Maestro Taro Iwashiro at the recording studio of film music at about 25 years old . At that time, he will combine me with a lot of work. And, I participated as a Synthesizier programmer in the work"ONIMUSHA II" that Taro was going to handle in 2001.

GGM:
How did you get the job to score Chaos Legion?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I heard that the staff of Capcom at ONIMUSHA II "The programmer at that time was cool, isn't he? " Without Joking, It is certain that the demonstration music that I prepared for Chaos Legion was cool. At least, I believe so.

GGM:
How did you prepare to create the Chaos Legion's music?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
A lot of dsitorted guitar samples in the style of heavy metal music. It was pretty easy for me.

GGM:
How did your inital musical concept for Chaos Legion compare to your final music?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
There were no expectations for me except for being able to write many tunes in same style.

GGM:
What was the hardest part of creating the music for Chaos Legion?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
The Continuation of tension.

GGM:
What are your strengths and weaknesses as a composer?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I do not think I have something that can be called a strength as a composer in me. I am only a weak point. I want to learn furthe, and to improve.

GGM:
How does being an arranger, programmer and engineer help you to compose music?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I think they are the people that help so that I may work easily, But No one helped me because I did everything by himself this time.

GGM:
What are the differences between engineering, programming and mixing?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
There is no difference. It is only a difference of each technique. Anything can be done if you have a good ear. The technique is only studied.

GGM:
So it takes a good ear to be makes a good audio engineer and arranger?

Hideyuki Fukasawa
Yes...Yes.

GGM:
Please share your thoughts and experiences on the following:

Hideyuki Fukasawa:

Choas Legion-
This is the first, original work for me. Song writing, engineering, programming and mixing, Everything was done for myself.

Gran Turismo 2-
This album is the masterpiece of my instrumental game music CDs. Personally I don't count game music as original albums, but I do treat this one in that way particularly.

Onimusha 2
I worked with Taro in charge of Synthesizer and MIDI programming. It was very exciting time for me. Big orchestra sound with digital rhythm that made me excited at the studio.

GGM:
Do you admire any game composers? Who would you like to work with?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
I want to participate in a Hans Zimmer project someday. Being related to themusic production of a Hollywood film.

GGM:
What is it like to work with *Taro Iwashiro? What is Sextasy Room?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
He is one of the composers who represent Japan. It is very honored for me to work with. Sextacy Room is a name of the unit that pairs with him. You can listen to the work one of these days.

GGM:
What advice can you share with those who want to create music in the game business?

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
Even if one has the ability or skill of technology, a good ear that understands music is necessary. In good music, the category like the charts of the game music, etc. is sure not to exist. The music should be first and the category is subsequent.

GGM:
Any additional thoughts for your fans around the world.

Hideyuki Fukasawa:
Thank you for you interested in my music even if it isjust a little. I am related to the production of a big game project now. I think that you can listen to it next year.

Thanks to Mr. Fukasawa for chatting with us.
